Her popularity is partly due to the fact she had starred in Whedon's next TV hit, Firefly. Summer Glau's River Tam was a complicated role that Glau managed with ease. Tam has to take part in government-sponsored experiments that help her become the ultimate assassin. In the end, the capacity of Tam to regulate her emotions was taken away from her. Glau's fighting skills were also displayed on Firefly. The training she received as an assassin allowed her an opportunity to make use of all of her athletic abilities. Summer Glau has been a ballerina from the age of a child. Her dancing abilities include flamenco, tango, as well as a range of different types. However, a fractured toe cut off her career. Firefly ran for only the duration of one episode, but was a huge hit with its fans. Fans of Whedon's were so passionate that Whedon returned to it after two years.
