Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter. She has released more than 20 albums. DiFranco's music has been classified as folk-rock and alternative rock although it is also influenced by punk funk hiphop and jazz. She is widely considered to be a feminist icon. Grammy winner Ani DiFranco was the founder of the DIY movement being one of the first artists to create her own record label in the year 1990. DiFranco is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They were introduced at their school, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was Italian descent and her mother hails from Montreal. Ani DiFranco wrote and sang 32 Flavors. The track was first released as the fifth single from DiFranco's 1995 studio album Not a Pretty Girl. The song appears on the film soundtrack of the 1999 Canadian romance film Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it was revealed that she was hosting 3 days of a workshop at the site of a Louisiana former slave plantation. The workshop was cancelled, however, she did not express any regret. DiFranco apologized a couple of days afterward. While she's been referred to for her role as the Little Folksinger her music spans many genres and collaborators ranging from Pete Seeger to Chuck D to Prince. Her home is New Orleans. Ani DiFranco lives with Kristen Ford. By 14 she was singing her own tunes. Through her teenage years she would perform songs at bars and coffeehouses. DiFranco has graduated at age 16, at the age of 16, from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts High School began to attend classes at Buffalo State College. The baritone Ani plays is an individualized Alvarez guitar, which was designed after several meetings with Chrys, an Alvarez artist representative at the time.
